Glowing heart

There is hardly a more loyal reader of Jenő Dsida than László Lisztóczky. Not only in the sense that since his youth he has been browsing through the poet's poems again and again, finding unchanged - or perhaps increasing - pleasure in them. But also in the sense that he tries to share this joy he has gained from the poems with others - preferably with everyone. That is why he founded the Jenő Dsida Friends Circle two decades ago, the programmatic goal of which is to popularize the poet and to make his life and poetry known to as wide a circle as possible. There is no Dsida researcher who has not visited Eger - sometimes more than once - as a guest of this truly "friends' circle" to contribute to the achievement of the above goal with his lecture, always in a crowded room, always in front of an enthusiastic audience. László Lisztóczky thus became the founder of the Dsida cult, at a time when the poet and his oeuvre had barely been freed from the captivity of purposefully malicious oblivion. However, László Lisztóczky is primarily a literary historian who also devotes his research diligence and talent to his beloved poet. The poet - refuting the ancient proverb - is not only born, but also becomes. The events of his life make him so, as do the influences he receives from his environment. Without a biography and a biography of his environment, his poems can hardly be understood - or only in a different, less "faithful" way. László Lisztóczky's Dsida studies show an example of the "reading together" of life, environment and time with the poet's poems with a high degree of philological precision and aesthetic sensitivity. He thus achieved immeasurable merit in making our picture of Dsida as complete as possible. Gusztáv Láng
